As a China Education Exchange program associate,
most of your living expenses will be covered. But, you
are probably wondering about some of the other expenses
that you may have.
Airfare: If you plan well, you should
be able to get an e-fare flight into China for about USD
525. If you want to plan really well, take a look into
the courier companies because you could fly to Beijing
for as little as USD 300. Remember
your round-trip airfare ticket is fully reimbursed at
the end of your assignment.
Local transportation: The trip from the
Airport to Beijing downtown will be the most expensive
local ride you'll take in China (At about USD 4). The
regular buses in Beijing cost about USD.08.
Accommodations:
All of your housing needs are provided by CEX. Our associates
will receive a furnished apartment and sometimes a meal
plan. You may be asked to pay the cost of basic
utilities like electricity, home telephone, water and
cable, but in China, those fees are rather than modest.
Telephones: We highly recommend you to
buy a cell phone in China. Everybody has one! A new cell
phone costs about USD 100. Some unscrupulous cell phone
dealers will tack on extra charges for special telephone
numbers. Your month service charge should be around USD
7.
Food: Meals in China are very cheap as
long as you stay away from the tourist spots. Night markets
and small restaurants usually have the best prices. You
should be able to eat very well with your monthly salary.
Incidentals: No matter how carefully
you plan your expenses, there are always incidental costs
here and there. Maybe you want to go on a tour or maybe
your clothes aren't quite right for the climate and you
need to buy some new ones...whatever!
So, even though your monthly salary will be high by Chinese
standards, it would be wise to budget your money.. |
